Google's revealed that its already got plenty of projects underway, and they're headed up by Andy Rubin. Yep, the man who made the company's Android operating system arguably the biggest smartphone OS in the world. In the last six months, Google has managed to claim seven different technology companies en route to its very real robot plans, although its current target isn't the same millions that fell in love with a cute green avatar.

Guy Builds A Bomb Just With Stuff You Can Buy After Airport Security

With just a stainless steel coffee mug, a Li-ion AA battery, some Axe Body Spray, a condom and a bottle of water, Terminal Cornucopia was able to construct and successfully detonate an improvised frag grenade. He made this home-made “FRAGGuccino” from stuff you can buy from airport terminal kiosks — you know the ones you can enter after passing through security.Essentially the water filled condom breaks upon being thrown which shorts the battery, generating enough heat to ignite the can of Axe which transforms the mug into a flurry of shrapnel.

Obviously, this was simply a test demonstrating a proof of concept but the fact that it can be done — apparently very easily, very quickly, and so cheap. Get ready for your airport security screening to get a lot less pleasant.

Wallet stuffed with different types of cards? One Coin is the solution.

Coin is so interesting. It’s a credit-card-sized device that holds other credit cards, debit cards and gift cards, allowing you to swap from card to card and even store gift cards inside its ultra-thin innards.

The company planned a pre-order campaign that would top out at $50,000. They blew past that goal in 40 minutes today, a testament to the desire for folks to leave their plastic at home.

The card itself is as thin as a regular credit card. To use the card you select a payment type with the button and just swipe. The Coin card “mimics” your read credit or gift card. The technology is tightly packed inside the card’s plastic case. It uses low-power Bluetooth to connect to your iOS device that is coupled with a standard credit-card reader. You swipe your cards into the system and you’re done. The device holds up to eight cards.

Engineer Kanishk Parashar is leading the Y-Combinator-backed company alongside investor and board member Manu Kumar. Parashar cut his teeth in payments with a startup called SmartMarket, but this product seems to be his winner.
The company isn’t new – a company called Flint is already in this space and I suspect a bigger player will probably beat Coin to the mass market. It’s a cool idea in a cool package and, clearly, the idea has caught fire.

Watch the video below to know and understand how it works:

Heartwarming Google India Ad strikes emotional chord with its cinematic brilliance

Google released a heartwarming ad on the 13th November which has already crossed half a million views within 24 hours of being uploaded on Youtube. The three and a half minute emotional ad is hugely refreshing from the usual adverts that come from the immensely competitive tech world featuring playful banter or even resorting to murky mud-slinging between rivals. The video advert named ‘Reunion’ is a part of a series has gone viral on Youtube and other social networking sites.

It shows how Google helps two childhood friends separated by the 1947 India-Pakistan partition are reunited. Those who are unaware of the demographics and the politics of the subcontinent: The two countries, post-partition, share a love-hate relationship, clipping only the extremities of the spectrum, and Google India has tried to hit a soft spot by picking up this topic.

The World's Most Obscene iPhone Dock Is Bigger Than A Pony

With 28 speakers blasting around 125 watts, the original Wall of Sound made for an obnoxious home stereo system — let alone an iPod dock. But its creators have returned with a bigger and better solution: the Wall of Sound 2.0 that adds an extra 16 speakers, bringing the total to 44 (in addition to a pair of subs) for more decibels and bass than an iPhone dock ever needs
.

One-tonne satellite will fall back to Earth in an unknown location

People watch out for debris from this satellite falling from the skies when you are outside home.

A European satellite that mapped Earth's gravitational field in exquisite detail will be pulled down by gravity to its fiery destruction sometime in the next few days.

Where and when it will crash no one knows. It could be almost anywhere on the globe. About 25 to 45 fragments of the one-ton spacecraft are expected to survive all the way to the surface, with the largest perhaps weighing 200 pounds.

Planes collide in midair and luckily no one died

Few of the luckiest people on earth are in the below video. They were lucky enough to escape a plane collision in midair.

The three skydivers who were on the step of the second plane got knocked off on impact, Robinson said, and the two inside were able to jump. The pilot of Robinson's plane ejected himself, and the pilot of the second plane landed the aircraft safely at Richard I Bong Airport, where it took off.

None of the nine skydivers or two pilots sustained serious injury when the two planes collided in midair Saturday evening in far northwest Wisconsin near Lake Superior. Authorities still didn't know what caused the accident.

Who Has 1 Billion Users And Is About To Overtake Facebook?

It’s not Twitter, Google+ or LinkedIn. It’s a company that most people in the West don’t know. That, however, is set to change, with the explosive growth of China’s Tencent and its mobile messaging app WeChat.

Last week, Facebook, the current king of social networks, admitted that it’s losing teen users, and that the overall growth in its monthly active users has slowed to 18% year-on-year. This isn't helped by the fact that it and other Western social networks are banned in China. By contrast, Tencent recently announced that WeChat’s users have almost tripled from the 85 million of the year before.

10 million BBM downloads for Android/iOS users in 24 hours

In just 24 hours BBM has been downloaded over 10 million times by Android and iPhone users, one of the best single-day openings for a mobile app to date says Techday in the article below.
The private social network from BlackBerry, available free in the App Store and Google Play, quickly rose through the rankings on the App Store to be the number one free app in more than 75 countries in the first 24 hours.
“This has been an incredible launch for BBM across Android and iPhone devices,” says Andrew Bocking, Executive VP, BBM at BlackBerry. The struggling smartphone maker claims user ratings in both the App Store and Google Play are overwhelmingly positive, earning BBM 60,000 five-star reviews on Google Play from about 87,000 reviews.
“The mobile messaging market is full of opportunity for BBM.
“We intend to be the leading private social network for everyone who needs the immediate communication and collaboration of instant messaging combined with the privacy, control and reliability delivered through BBM,”
BBM has more than 60 million monthly active customers, with more than 51 million people using BBM an average of 90 minutes per day.
BBM customers collectively send and receive more than 10 billion messages each day, nearly twice as many messages per user per day as compared to other mobile messaging apps.
According to Bocking, almost half of BBM messages are read within 20 seconds of being received; indicating how engaged BBM customers are.

Sachin announces his retirement after 200th test against West Indies

India legend Sachin Tendulkar will call time on his career after his 200th Test Match against West Indies in November.India has started planning sport’s greatest retirement party next month when Sachin Tendulkar bids farewell to cricket after his 200th Test.

The man known in India as the 'God of cricket' announced on Thursday that the second Test against the West Indies would be the final act of a 24-year career, the passing of which has left a gaping hole in terms of a national hero and icon to more than a billion people.
India’s 24-hour rolling news channels were dominated by Tendulkar’s departure. Rahul Gandhi, a member of India’s greatest political dynasty and a strong candidate to become prime minister next year, was wiped off screen in the middle of a speech as the greats of cricket and the ordinary Indian fan hailed the 40-year-old.
As the man himself admitted he would find it “hard to imagine life without cricket”, others were describing him as a genius who handled the enormous pressures of living his life in the public gaze of the world’s most fanatical cricket nation but never let his success go to his head. “He can’t move around anywhere without crowds following him,” said Sunil Gavaskar, the former India opening batsman. “To have that 24/7, 365 days a year and to still go out and not fail to deliver consistently is marvelous. He has got to be a genius.”

Take a look around hidden gems of Antarctica with this virtual guide

An evolving online project is putting people up close to the hidden gems of Antarctica - without them setting foot on ice.
Stephen Archer, a doctoral student with Waikato University's International Centre of Terrestrial Antarctic Research, has been developing a navigation tool that gives users a virtual tour of the white continent.

The resource has much the same functionality as Google software, but takes the viewer off-road to such places as Kiwi Pond in the sweeping Miers Valley, the rock-strewn slopes of Mt Booth, or Bratina Island Camp.
Mr Archer, with help from volunteer photographers, has battled Antarctica's extreme elements and the logistical headaches they create to capture landscape panoramas with his cameras.

Samsung surprises with first investment in Kiwi wireless power company

Samsung Ventures America has spent $4 million on New Zealand-based startup firm PowerbyProxi, which works on wireless charging devices for mobile phones, entering into a strategic partnership with the company.

According to a report by The Droid Guy, Michael Pachos, senior investment manager of Samsung Ventures America, said, “We believe that wireless power transfer is going to significantly change the way consumers use and interact with their devices at home and on the go.”

Powerproxi is inclined towards the Qi Wireless charging standard, which means that it backs the Wireless Power Consortium. The company has developed charging devices in which, users simply have to keep their mobile phones on top of the device in order to charge it.

This is the first time that Samsung has made an investment in the wireless charging industry. It is also the third round of funding for Powerproxi, which has now raised $20 million in funding.

The Droid Guy also quoted Greg Cross, CEO and chairman of PowerbyProxi, who said that Samsung’s investment wouldn't interfere with the independence of the company, “We want to support as many consumer electronics and industrial components as we possibly can.

It was Nokia bought few weeks back and now its Blackberry that was bought by Fairfax

Enjoy those BlackBerry devices you have, because they may be the last ones they ever make.

The company has agreed to a buyout from Fairfax Financial Holdings—a group that had already owned about a 10-percent stake in the company—for $4.7 billion. A sad thought for the company when, just in 2008, they were valued at $83 billion. Current shareholders will be bought out for about $9 a share, and the company will be taken private after that, as long as another group doesn't come along and offer a higher bid within six weeks (don't hold your breath.) If you think BlackBerry's phones were bad, things are even worse at the workplace: they recently announced that they're expecting a $950 million loss for its second quarter, and would be firing 4,500 people. That's about 40-percent of its global employees. Ouch.

If things hold up and a new buyer doesn't come forward, it is widely expected that the company will drop out of the hardware phone business and concentrate on its enterprise strategy, since it is the phones that were once so hot that people fell out of love with, and led to the company's demise in the end.
