Guess who's credit card have been hacked for shopping spree - PayPal president's credit card

PayPal President David Marcus said on Monday that his credit card details were stolen and the information was used to finance a fraudulent spending spree.

Marcus said the card was probably "skimmed" at the hotel he was staying at, or at a merchant he visited, during a recent trip to the U.K.

"They then cloned it and went on a shopping spree," the executive wrote on Twitter.

Marcus noted that his credit card had EMV chip technology, a more secure system currently in use in Europe. But that didn't stop the data from being stolen and used for a "ton of fraudulent" transactions, according to the PayPal chief.

A skimmer is a device fixed to the front of an ATM or point-of-sale terminal that secretly swipes credit and debit information when customers slip their cards into the machines to withdraw cash or pay for something. This malicious technology has been around for years, but skimmers are constantly improving it, according to cyber security expert Brian Krebs.

PayPal's Marcus did not waste an opportunity to tout his company's security benefits, saying the breach would not have happened if the merchant had accepted PayPal as a form of payment. PayPal says it does not share card or bank account details with merchants when shoppers use the service to buy something.

PayPal is trying to expand from its online roots to become a common way to pay in physical stores. The security of card transactions in retail locations has been questioned recently by the massive theft of customer data from Target.

"Obfuscating card data online, on mobile, and now more and more offline remains one of PayPal's strongest value props," Marcus added on Twitter.

'Fast And Furious' star Paul Walker killed in crash

Paul Walker - the actor best known for his part in the Fast and the Furious films - has died in a car accident in Southern California.

TMZ.com first reported that the 40-year-old actor and another person died Saturday afternoon after a single-car accident and explosion.

Paul's rep just released a statement about his death, and says "He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives." Witnesses on the scene said the car was Paul's ... but also said he was in the passenger seat.

The rep added that Paul was "attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide."

American transport officials are investigating how a 9-year-old boy got on a plane without a ticket and flew 2400 km to Las Vegas.

The boy, who has not been named, got through three levels of security at Minneapolis-St Paul airport in Minnesota on Friday before boarding a Delta flight

Few weeks back it was US Naval Yard now gun shots at US Capitol

A police officer was reported injured after gunshots at the US Capitol, police said. They locked down the entire complex, derailing debate over how to end a government shutdown.

Sen. Bob Casey, a Democrat, told reporters he was walking from the Capitol to the Senate Russell Office Building across the street when he noticed several police officers driving fast up Constitution Avenue on motorcycles.

Islamist gunmen attack Nigeria college, 50 students feared killed

Suspected Islamic extremists attacked an agricultural college in the dead of night, gunning down dozens of students as they slept in dormitories and torching classrooms in an ongoing Islamic uprising in northeast Nigeria, the school's provost said.

Hunt for shooter after rampage at US Navy Yard (13 people confirmed dead)

One gunman has been killed and another may still be at large after a shooting rampage at the US Navy Yard in Washington that left several people dead, police said.

At least one police officer was among the wounded as police and federal agents descended on the installation, blocking streets only blocks from the US Capitol, home of Congress.

13 people were confirmed dead, including that of a gunman with about dozen more wounded, including a police officer.

A 120 car pile-up near London

Dozens of people were hurt, some seriously, when more than 100 cars were caught up in a huge pile-up on a bridge east of London during foggy conditions on Thursday morning (local time).

In dense fog at the start of morning rush hour, eight motorists were seriously injured, 60 less seriously, and hundreds left standing in the road unhurt but terrified near the tangled remains of their cars as more than 120 vehicles ploughed into one another on the Sheppey bridge crossing in Kent.

Witnesses described 10 minutes of eerie mayhem, as they heard crash after crash of vehicles invisible in the fog. Many claimed motorists were approaching the bridge at speed and with no headlamps, and some who realised something was wrong stopped but were then struck by more vehicles piling into the scene. Chief Inspector Andy Reeves, of Kent police, said it was "remarkable" that nobody was killed.

The mangled wrecks of cars and lorries were strewn across the Sheppey Crossing as vehicles smashed into each other in a series of collisions at about 7.20am (6.30pm NZ time).
